153m Hub-Height Freestanding MET-Tower for Norway

We are thrilled to announce the successful development and supply of a 153m hub-height freestanding meteorological tower in Gulen, north of Bergen, Norway. While this project falls outside of RADTech's typical remit, it exemplifies the combined expertise of CarlC and RADTech in delivering large-scale freestanding lattice towers, reaching heights up to 187m.
The client faced real estate constraints that made a guyed mast infeasible, necessitating a freestanding tower. CarlC and RADTech provided the perfect solution, which has now been successfully installed on-site.
This tower is part of our dedicated MET tower series. We collaborated with DTU of Denmark to design a series of meteorological towers that minimize flow distortion. Key design features include:
Using (round) solid bar steel members instead of tubular steel
Minimizing lattice spread to make the tower as porous as possible
Minising dimensions of tower sections flange connections
These efforts have resulted in a slim tower with exceptionally low flow distortion, requiring minimal instrument side booms to meet the latest IEC norm for flow distortion of 1% or 0.5%, depending on the boom length relative to the nearest tower member.
The 150.8m tower in Gulen has a footprint in the shape of an equilateral triangle measuring only 6.5m per side.
CarlC managed the entire project, including tower design, production, civil engineering tasks such as foundation design, and the tower assembly and installation. The client was highly satisfied with our commitment and efficiency, especially given the tight production timeline. This project highlights our ability to deliver exceptional solutions for complex challenges.
